Este trabajo analiza cómo el control y la gestión de las rutas y de los productos comerciales fue una estrategia política para el crecimiento del imperio azteca; cómo los gobernantes mexicas encaminaron sus esfuerzos hacia la costa, el golfo y el sur, donde se hallaban las provincias más productivas; y cómo este interés implicó al ejército y a los comerciantes que intentaron mantener un equilibrio de fuerzas que, con el tiempo, parece ceder a favor de los pochtecas, amenazando al estamento militar…..

The present article analyzes the control and management of commercial routes and products as a strategy for expansion of the Aztec empire; the way in which the latter deployed its efforts towards the coast, the gulf and the south, where the most productive provinces were situated, involving both army and merchants in this enterprise, and attempting to create a balance of forces which, in the course of time, seems to have inclined in favour of the pochtecas, thus threatening the military estate…..
